We’re excited to highlight another amazing member of our Community Paramedicine (CP) Program, Lisa!
Lisa began as a volunteer EMT-M in 1994 for the Marietta Area Ambulance Association, in which her family originated in the 1960s. In 1998, she would join Lancaster EMS. She would spend a little over 10 years with the organization before leaving in 2009. In 2015, Lisa rejoined Lancaster EMS, but that wouldn’t be her last transition.
“Almost 4 years ago,” Lisa explains, “I sustained an injury preventing me from returning to the MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit).” But what could’ve been a devastating blow, Lisa, a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, found a way to turn things around when she transitioned into the Community Paramedic Program, “In my 29th year of EMS,” she says, “I am now in a completely different and unique role.”
She notes that the switch not only expanded her scope of practice in various ways (socially and medically), but also her outlook on life. Being a lifelong night-shifter, the switch to more traditional daytime hours has added a layer of balance and, consequently, joy that she hadn’t known before.
Lisa was the first EMT-B welcomed onto the CP Team, and she notes her gratitude for not only the program’s willingness to expand by welcoming her with open arms, but the continued commitment of her superior. “Coming to work each shift knowing that you have a Director that has pure compassion for our program and is very supportive of me as a well-seasoned provider & FTO is very humbling,” she explains. “We have a strong team of professionals, working together to make a wide diverse group of people’s lives different, each and every day.”
Lisa, we’re so blessed to have you!
